DELICIOUS IRONY: Before I go any further, let me say that I was very pleased with the condition of our kitchen tonight, with a roast in the Crock-Pot all simmering tenderly, and chicken and onions and peppers grilled to take to work for lunchtime fajitas, and corn on the cob all fresh and yummy, and a [...] “New!” Here they are in the office kitchen, awaiting heating and consumption. Behold. The kind I had today was actually Cheese Manicotti, but I couldn’t find a picture of that, so here you go: Pot Roast. Same general principle: shelf-stable food in a box that you nuke and eat. I’m afraid I don’t have a picture of this one. But you can get to know it here. It features potatoes, scrambled egg whites, turkey sausage and a bit of cheese. It’s freaking delicious. I know, I was surprised too. But after eating it, I could see why they feel justified in charging $3.49 or whatever at [...] There are maybe six varieties of these. They all look vaguely like this: I can say with absolute certainty, do not eat the cheese flavors. Just don’t do it. You’ll look at the picture on the front, and you’ll think you’re getting something vaguely Kraft Macaroni and Cheese-ish — not, you know, actual food, but pretty [...] I’ll admit, it’s been awhile since I actually had Bagel-fuls, but I remember my first taste like it was yesterday. I paid 50 cents for them. Sadly, I only got to try one, since a miscommunication about the timing of cleaning of the office freezer sent the others to their doom. But it was surprisingly non-terrible. [...] This is what the box looks like: The kind I had were “Molten Caramel Cake,” but you get the idea. It came to me as I was eating a Betty Crocker Warm Delights. I am not proud of this, incidentally. The ingredient list on a Warm Delights box is, like, seven paragraphs of dense text in six-point font, and there are lots of suffixes like “glyceride.” And I am someone who argued passionately earlier in [...] |
